Correlation among Postural Control, Balance and Gait Scale in Stroke Patients and Effect on Gait

Abstract
Purpose : The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between postural control, balance ability, and walking ability evaluation tools, and to investigate the effect of postural control and balance ability on gait.

Methods : This study is a retrospective study on balance and gait in stroke patients. The study subjects were 153(male: 95, female: 59, Average age: 57.76¡¾18.00 years). The evaluation tools used were the postural assessment scale for stroke, berg balance scale, and functional ambulation category.

Results : Postural Assessment Scale for strokeT, Postural Assessment Scale for strokeMP, Postural Assessment Scale for strokeCP, Berg balance scale, and Functional gait category had a high correlation with each other. Postural Assessment Scale for strokeT and Berg balance scale had an effect on Functional gait category.
Also, Postural Assessment Scale for strokeT and Berg balance scale can be used as predictors for walking ability.

Conclusion : Postural control, balance, and walking ability of patients with subacute stroke were correlated with each other. It seems that the improvement of walking ability can be predicted when postural control ability and balance are improved.
